Sand Art Studio

A sand art studio in your browser, with sand that behaves like sand. Pour coloured sand into piles that settle at a real sand slope, draw through them with your finger, rake a zen garden and tilt the tray so it all slides. Fill a sand bottle layer by layer and poke the layers into points, flip an hourglass, or draw with light on a sand animation table.

Three ways to play with sand

• Sand Tray: pour, sprinkle, finger, rake, smooth, blow and scoop. Pour one colour over another and dig through it. Tilt or shake the tray and the sand slides.
• Sand Bottle: grain-by-grain falling sand in a bottle, a flat frame, a heart-shaped jar or an hourglass. A stick pulls the layers into points; turn or flip the glass.
• Light Table: sand animation on backlit glass, with the lamp below, a light above or both.
