The problem

Charts teach you to count dots, not to read Morse

Most people learn Morse from a chart and get stuck counting dits and dahs. Real Morse is learned by sound, at speed, one character at a time, and that needs a trainer, not a table.

  • Anyone who wants to send a secret message for fun

FAQ

Questions people ask

How do I translate text to Morse code?

Type your message and press Convert. You see the dots and dashes, and you can play them as sound, flash them as light, download the audio or share the code.

Can it translate Morse back to text?

Yes. Paste dots and dashes in the Morse to Text box, or tap your own code in Tap mode.

What is SOS in Morse code?

Three short, three long, three short: · · · — — — · · ·. Type SOS and press Play to hear the rhythm, or turn on the light to see it flash.

What is the Koch method?

You learn to recognise characters by sound at full speed, starting with K and M and adding one new character per lesson. Each lesson plays random groups of five characters you know, and you type what you hear. Score 90% or better to unlock the next lesson. Progress is saved in your browser.

What is Farnsworth spacing?

Characters are sent at your chosen character speed, but the gaps between characters and words are stretched so the overall speed is slower. That gives your brain time to recognise each sound as a whole.

How long does it take to learn Morse code?

It varies from person to person. Short daily sessions work better than one long one. The 40 lessons add one character each, and you move on when you reach 90%.

Is Morse code still used today?

Yes. Amateur radio operators still use it, and some people learn it as a backup way to signal for help.

Can I change the speed and tone?

Yes. Character speed from 10 to 30 WPM, optional Farnsworth spacing, tone frequency, volume and letter and word spacing.
